The Golden Compass
Philp Pullman
4/29/09
I was born in Norwich in 1946, and educated in England, Zimbabwe, and Australia, before my family settled in North Wales. I received my secondary education at the excellent Ysgol Ardudwy, Harlech, and then went to Exeter College, Oxford, to read English, though I never learned to read it very well.
I found my way into the teaching profession at the age of 25, and taught at various Oxford Middle Schools before moving to Westminster College in 1986, where I spent eight years involved in teaching students on the B.Ed. course. I have maintained a passionate interest in education, which leads me occasionally to make foolish and ill-considered remarks alleging that not everything is well in our schools. My main concern is that an over-emphasis on testing and league tables has led to a lack of time and freedom for a true, imaginative and humane engagement with literature.
Lyra Belacqua is content to run wild among the scholars of Jordan College, with her daemon familiar by her side. But the arrival of fearsom uncle, Lord Asirel, draws her to the heart of a terrible struggle- a struggle born of gobblers and stolen children, witch clans and armored bears. And as she hurtles toward danger in the cold far north, Lyra never suspects the shocking truth: she alone is destined to win, or to lose, this more than a mortal; battle.
some image words i found were Jericho were bright with gleaming harness and loud with the clop of hoopves and the clamor of bargining.
the image these words helped me see was a sneaky creature.
this visulazation helped me understand that theres some creatures you shouldnt trust.
I wonder if Lyra will fufill her density.
I wonder this because she has a feirce comppetter that shes going against.
I reccmond this book to any that enjoys reading

Marked
P.C.Cast Kristin Cast
3/30/09
P.C. Cast was born in Watseka, Illinois, and grew up being shuttled back-and-forth between Illinois and Oklahoma, which is where she fell in love with Quarter Horses and mythology (at about the same time). After high school she joined the United States Air Force and began public speaking and writing. Since her tour in the USAF, she has been speaking and teaching professionally.
This book is about the life of a normal teenager that just goes down hill when she got marked by a dying vampire and was force to turn her back on her family and go to the only person she can really trust, her grandmother but when she went to find her she fell andhit her head and a amazing dream about the vampire god. when she woke she was at the house of night where she started her whole life over and its been great for her lately, she made new friends and is loved by almost everyone.
Some image words I found was when zoey was witnessing a girl trying to seduce a guy by giving him a blow job.
The image these words helped me smell the blood off his leg when she scratched him.
This visulization helps me understand that theres some crazy things happening in her new school.
I wonder if zoey and neffert have a special bond.
I wonder this because after dreaming of neffert her marked was colored in.
one awnser to this question is neffert is looking out for neffert.
I reccomond this book if your intrested in drama, mysterys, and vampires.

Full Tilt
Neal Shusterman
March,19/09
In my opinion I think that Neil Shusterman published a very interesting book along with other great books such as Everlost, and unwind.
Sixteen-year-old Blake has always been the responsible one in his dysfunctional family -- the one who drives safely, gets good grades, and looks after his wild younger brother, Quinn. Quinn is his brother's opposite -- a thrill-seeker who's always chasing the next scary rush, no matter what the cost. But Quinn and Blake are in for the surprise of their lives when they're thrust into the world of a bizarre phantom carnival -- and their souls are the price of admission. In order to save his brother, and himself, Blake must survive seven different carnival rides before dawn. Seven rides...it sounds easy. But each ride is full of unexpected dangers, because each ride is a reflection of one of Blake's deepest fears. And the last ride is the worst one of all. Because that's the one that confronts Blake with a terrifying secret from his past -- a secret he's been running from for years. Full of roller-coaster twists and turns, Neal Shusterman's latest page-turner is an Orpheus-like adventure into one boy's psyche.
Some image words I found was when Blake's brother was frightened scared and was taken to the hospital to see what was wrong. The image these words helped me see the crazy adventure that Blake has to go threw to solve this mystery. This visualization helps me understand why Blake is out to solve this mystery to find out what happen to his brother.
A piece of text I connected to be when Blake was afraid to go on the rollercoaster. It reminds me of when I was scared to ride a ro9llercoaster then I conquered my fear. This helps me understand what he went threw.
I recommend this book to anyone who has nothing to do at home.

Beastly
Alex Flinn
febuary 27 2009
From HarperCollins: "Alex Flinn loves fairy tales and made her two daughters sit through several dozen versions of Beauty and the Beast while she wrote this book...then quizzed them on how they thought a beast would meet girls in New York City. She is the author of five previous books: Breathing Underwater (HarperCollins, 2001)(author interview), an American Library Association Top 10 Best Book for Young Adults; Breaking Point (HarperCollins, 2003)(author interview), an ALA Quick Pick for Reluctant Young Adult Readers; Nothing to Lose (HarperCollins, 2005), an ALA Best Book for Young Adults; Fade to Black (HarperCollins, 2004); and Diva (HarperCollins, 2006). She lives in Miami." Read an author essay by Alex.
This book is about Mr. anderson creating a chat group for people who transformed and they all tell there story of how they became what they are. Mr. Anderson trys to help them become human again there are amazing storys of how they change and what mistakes they done. For example this boy kyle was mean to this girl kendra and she transforms him into a hairy ugly beast and to change he has to find a girl who will love him for what he is.
A peice of text i connected to was when kyle would judge people and make fun of people because of how they look. It reminded me of people who always judge people espically popular people. This helps me understand why kendra transformed him.
some image words I found were when sloath gave kyle a kiss right in front of kendra after kyle asked kendra to the dance. the image these words helpedd me see the expression and rage in her face. This visulaztion helps me understand why she said youll see.
I recmmoned this book to anyone who wants to read a good book.

The Boy Who Dared
Susan Campbell Bartoletti
2/13/09
Susan Campbell Bartoletti encountered Helmuth Hübene's amazing story while writing Hitler Youth: Growing Up in Hitler‚s Shadow. She was so moved by his heroic actions that she wanted to flesh out his story into a fictional form. She also wanted to provide a dramatic meditation on the meaning of his short life that raises questions about moral courage, nationalism, and the responsibility of the individual. Ms. Bartoletti is the author of many award-winning books for young people. She lives in Moscow, PA, with her husband. They have two children.
In "The Boy Who Dared" a boy named helmuth is put into a prison during the war against great britan. As the days pass he is remebering the old days when he was happy wit his mother and three brothers and tell the story of how he ended up in the prison.
A peice of text i conntected to was when helmuth was trapped in the prison. It reminded me of when im in school because i feel trap. This helps me understand that he has to deal with that every day.
Some image words I found were when helmuth said he felt like he was floating and god was getting closer to him.the image these words helped me feel like i was floating. This visulaztion helps me understand he has alot of faith.
I recmmond this book to anyone who has free time at home.
